Birthday & First Mess!

It's been a busy month, but for Luke's actual first birthday Grandma Rosie, Grandpa Pat & Grandma Kathy (Grandpa Steve had class) came over to witness Luke's first cupcake, here's the results! (I think he liked it)

Then Luke had all his friends over for the Superbowl – Collin, Ben, Leon & Cousin Abigail, and of course Grandpa Pat played with them all day.

Fast forward to this morning, Kathy & I are trying to get ready to take Luke to the Dr. for his 1 year shots and we hear something dump out all over the kitchen, we both run in there and find almost an entire box of Cheerios on the floor, he was pretty proud of himself, promptly after we were able to snap this picture he sat down and started eating them off the floor…Luke & I are guessing Mommy won't leave an open box of cereal in Luke's reach again!

Well time to get headed out the door to the Dr…we'll see how Luke handles this round!

Crazy!

Wow, I can't believe my little boy is going to be one tomorrow!  At this time last year I was joking about giving birth to a toddler due to his estimated weight and now I really have a toddler!  This was by far the fastest year of my life!  I was also not thrilled about the time I had to get up to go to the hospital, I think that is my normal wake up time now – who would have ever thought I would be out of bed at 5:30?

I know that I haven't posted in a long time, but I have had my hands full with our little stinker.  He has been crawling for months but still isn't too interested in walking.  He loves to hold your fingers and walk and he cruises around the furniture and the ottoman, but if you let go he just dives.  More like a face plant – on the one hand at least he knows that I will catch him, but it would be fun if he was walking.  Not that I am concerned, he can already reach the door knobs, he just doesn't know what to do with them.

So a little about Luke….  He loves bath tub time and banging his toys together, he finally clapped at New Years so that is pretty exciting too.  Not much can beat grilled cheese sandwiches and Grandma Kathy's banana choc chip muffins.  He is a really fast crawler and loves to play with doors and drawers, until the door latches that is.  He isn't saying too much that we can understand, though he is constantly blabbing about something.   He says something that sounds like "Hey, DAD" quite a bit and "momma", but not really at us.  At Christmas time with all the lights he was pointing and saying something that sounded like "See?" and now he says something like "go, go, go" when he crawls up the stairs.  He is currently 27 pounds and 29 inches tall.  He also had his first hair cut a couple of weeks ago, that didn't go too bad, but he wanted to watch what she was doing… but he still has two ears and less shaggy hair – can't complain!

Needless to say we are having an absolute blast with him and we couldn't be more thankful for our beautiful happy little Luke-y.  I will try to get some more pictures up here tomorrow of him enjoying his giant cupcake.

Christmas!

Luke didn't know what to think of Santa, but he didn't cry at least!

Luke with some of his new toys on Christmas Morning!

On the way to Grandma & Grandpa Sather's we just had to see how Luke stacked up against the snowpiles from the Christmas storm! (No that's not our for sale sign, it's our neighbors)

Wow

Holy Cow – I just went back and read my last entry in JULY!!!!  Sorry about that.  It talked about Luke's first tooth and how he was just starting to scoot and had finally mastered rolling in both directions – Wow a difference a couple months makes for a baby!  As you can see from the pictures Ryan posted a couple of weeks ago, my baby is looking more like a little boy than a baby!

He has 4 teeth, the middle two on the top and bottom and if he doesn't get his next top left one I am afraid daycare is going to kick us out – he has been a little bit cranky!  Speaking of daycare though, they got a new puppy, a baby boxer, Sierra and she LOVES Luke – all the other kids will be on the floor and she bee lines it right for Luke.  It is actually pretty cute, not cute enough for me to get a dog, but cute all the same.

Luke is way past the scooting stage, he is crawling all over the place and getting in to all sorts of things.  Currently, his favorite new finds are the boing-y door stop in the entry way, the tiny space between the couch and the love seat that he can fit thru to get to the hallway, and standing up at the shower curtain and banging on it so the whole thing moves.  Yes, I said standing up.  He has been pulling himself up almost since he has been crawling.  He isn't quite standing on his own yet, but I am certain that day is soon!

In my last post I announced Luke's new cousin, well I can do that again.  Kari and Ben (Ryan's Sister) had their baby last week – Fiona Marie.  She was born on Kari's birthday, and Chris' last was born on hers – weird huh!?

Luke is still eating some baby food, but would really rather feed himself what ever we are having – the bonus to this is that we are trying to eat a little bit better – the bad thing is that it is messy.

He is also a jabber mouth – not sure what he was saying yesterday, but I don't know that he really stopped talking at all yesterday.  So he may look like a Sather, but he got that from me (or I guess it could be Gpa Steve)

Okay, he is getting in to everything right now and has already puked under my desk while I wrote this (Ryan is at Gander Mtn preparing for Hunting!)  I suppose we should start thinking about dinner!

Later!

More Pics

Luke has become quite the mover & has already 'graduated' to pulling himself up to standing (sometimes it's not so great!)

He's pretty proud of himself here…

This past Saturday We were at Colin Malecha's birthday party and Kacy's dad thought Luke needed to try an Oreo…I think he liked it!

OK I'm turning the details over to Kathy – I need to get packing!

2009 State Fair

Wow 6 weeks since our last update…Sorry about that.  You're going to get hit with 2 sets of photos and hopefully Kathy will put some information up since I am packing to go fishing at Lake Vermillion for a week.

Call us crazy but we took Luke to the MN State Fair, he seemed to enjoy it, and was exceptionally well behaved with not taking a morning nap!

Luke tried the obligatory Pronto Pup!  He didn't quite know what to think at first.  (He also later tried a few bites of a Dairy Barn malt)

Ahhhhhh

So today made me happy!  Ryan and I went to pick up Luke at daycare and Joan was holding him inside the door saying good-bye to 2 other girls (his girl friends) and he saw us coming and starting laughing!!!!  Melt my Heart!!!

In other news, Luke was successfully baptized on June 12th.  As soon as the ceremony portion was over and we took some pictures, Father George just stepped away and Luke barfed a big one right in the front of the altar – Father laughed and said he wasn't going to hold him!  So the extra blessings didn't stop the puking.  darn…

Last week he cut his first tooth, I still can't see it enough to get a picture, but you can definitely feel the sharp edges.  It is the bottom left and it looks like the bottom right will be thru very soon – See Luke knows when it is corn season you need teeth!

He has definitely mastered rolling in both directions now so he isn't waking me up 3 times a night to roll him back to his tummy, which is fantastic!  He is also scooting a little bit – it isn't purposeful quite yet, but he is getting there – usually he just ends up in new places and has this look on his like "how did I get here?"  So the gate on the basement stairwell has been installed, but we don't really need it quite yet.

He also got a new cousin last week – Welcome Madison Marie Coulter – my sister's 5th and last little monkey.  And Kari is down to about 2 more months so it will be an exciting Christmas at the Sather's.  We probably won't see my sister until next summer, so that stinks, she still hasn't met Luke – but Luke and Kari and Ben's little girl will grow up together so that will be really fun!

Okay – he is taking his evening cat nap so I better get dinner going before he wakes up.  I will try to get some baptism pictures posted soon, come to think of it I haven't even looked at them myself!  We are just go, go, go and then we crash and we do it again!

Love to you all – enjoy the bottom half of Summer!
